Dan is quite possibly the greatest writer in the history of Soul music. He wrote or co-wrote the Dark End of the Street, Do Right Woman Do Right Man, Im Your Puppet, Cry Like a Man and more the list goes on and on. His longtime songwriting partner and incredible piano player Spooner Oldham (who played with the Muscle Schoals Rhythm Section, Neil Youngs band and the Drive-by-Truckers), is another songwriting legend who was recently inducted into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame, the latest of many accolades in his career. Last years show was one of the highlights of Fest-o-Matic. It still gives me chills and if you were there you know what I mean. They play this year on Friday, May 1st at 8pm, and will be followed by a separate show by young Patterson Hood whose history with them both goes back to his childhood.
